Robert J. Noecker, MD, MBA
Experience
Dr. Robert J. Noecker is a leading ophthalmologist specializing in the medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma and cataracts. He has more than 15 years of experience in developing innovations in glaucoma surgery. Dr. Noecker has conducted numerous trials on the pharmacologic and surgical treatment of glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eyes. He has also helped to develop and apply novel new materials and surgical techniques to the treatment of glaucoma. More recently, he has done research on the economic impact of eRecord implementation on clinical practices and developed programs for tele-ophthalmology in emergency room settings and hospital wards. He is on the editorial board of many peer reviewed journals in ophthalmology, has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and has lectured around the world on six continents and over 25 countries.
Training and Education
Dr. Noecker did his undergraduate work at MIT, medical school at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Arizona and Fellowship in glaucoma at Tufts University in Boston.
Professional and Academic Positions
Prior to joining the Ophthalmic Consultants of Connecticut, Dr. Noecker was the Vice Chair of UPMC Eye Center, Director of the Glaucoma Service and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was Associate Director of the electronic health record at UPMC, director of telemedicine for ophthalmology and director of glaucoma at the Pittsburgh VA hospital and the teleretina program for Ophthalmology. Prior to Pittsburgh, he was on the faculty at Tufts University and was Director of Glaucoma and the Ophthalmology program at the University of Arizona School of Medicine.
